This is a 58mm thread to a T-mount (42mm) thread adapter. It allows all 58mm threaded cameras to be used with telescope and spotting scopes, through the use of a scope T-adapter. Most scope to T-adapters are available through the scope manufacturer.
This is a distant lightning storm at nighttime, about 60 miles away on radar. The lightning strikes are greatly enhanced through the nightvision. This particular high-end device amplifies the photons transmitted to the eye by approximately 40000 times when operating at full gain. I held the video camera behind an ITT-Litton generation 3+ Pinnacle PVS-14 nightvision monocular to produce the video. The actual device I use is made by joining two of these monoculars together with a plastic block in between. The block has a 1/4″ thread bolt facing outward on two opposing sides. This creates a true dual-tube binocular and allows for depth perception which is lost when only using a single-eye monocular.

A former NASA employee in Ohio has pleaded guilty to illegally shipping night-vision rifle scope equipment to South Korean companies.
Sixty-six-year-old Kue Sang Chun of Avon Lake entered the plea Thursday to two counts in Cleveland federal court. Sentencing is scheduled for April 14.
He admits exporting defense items on the U.S. munitions list without federal approval. He also admitted making a false individual income tax return.
The Korean-born U.S. citizen is a former employee at the NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland. Authorities say he wasn’t accused of taking technology from the center.
